The story of Charlotte's life is rich. A gay transvestite, living with the backdrop of first Nazi Germany, then Communist East Berlin. Charlotte was a symbol of resistance to oppression of minorities during her own lifetime, but was a controversial figure once the wall came down. We see her life through the eyes of many characters, not the least of which is Charlotte herself.
