The Walcha Trout Club ensures there is always oncoming stock of fish by carrying out an annual river stocking program of both Rainbow and Brown Trout. Wild Eastern Bass fishing in the warmer waters of the gorge country has become very popular, with low range 4WD access to the Apsley River, via the “Riverside Trail”, about an hour east of Walcha. A permit is required to enter Riverside which is part of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and World Heritage Listed Macleay Gorges Wilderness area.

Fishing Licences are required in NSW with exemptions for; those under 18, Commonwealth Pension Card holders & Aboriginal people.
