Special Note : GlenGro Landcare Group beautification project
Artist's Location : Walcha
Type : Sculpture
Size : 6.2m (high)
Extra_info : This sculpture, along with extensive plantings of native species, was part of an overall beautification project surrounding the roadside rest area situated along the Thunderbolts Way, 5km south of town . GlenGro Landcare Group commissioned the work for the project. It was made possible through federal grant funding and the support of Walcha Council through landscaping the site and assistance in the installation of the sculpture.
THE SCULPTURE:
Erected vertically, three large Stringybark logs stand tall with neat sections sliced out around the log's perimeter offering an appearance of having been rung-barked. One of the logs surfaces has a notably spotty texture; this is due to having been exposed to a bushfire throughout its life. The spots are where suckers have sprouted post-bushfire.
THE ARTIST:
Noel 'Plum' Henry, is local to Walcha. Plum has been a member of the Walcha Woodcarving Group over the years and has contributed to other sculptures within Walcha's Open Air Gallery.
