acquired from Sculptures by the Sea exhibition which enabled the subsequent installation of
'Goulburn River Landscape'
by Paul Bacon and 'The Figure in the Landscape' by John Petrie.
THE SCULPTURE: Exploring the figurative presence in the landscape, while revealing the interior beauty of the stone through horizontally sliced cross sections. Funded by Arts NSW grant, acquired from Sculpture by the Sea 2014.
THE ARTIST:
A Sydney based sculptor who grew up in regional NSW. John has also lived and worked in Japan, Italy and the United States.
John started out as a painter then turned to sculpture around 1990, finding early on that the boulder, with its varied forms and geological history, was the primary medium for him. "Of course cutting the boulder open is often a wonderful surprise".
