Frisian whitework

Frisian whitework comes from Friesland in the Netherlands. This is a style of counted embroidery, where the placement of the stitches is determined by counting the fabric's threads. This sampler is in the style of Frisian whitework samplers that were often worked in colour to provide interest for the young girls making them. The sampler measures 12.5 x 26.5cm.

All skill levels are welcome!

NB: In these uncertain times, we recommend you have an appropriate travel insurance policy.

About Yvette Stanton

Yvette Stanton is the author of ten instructional embroidery books, with most focusing on historical needlework, as well as two stitch dictionaries. Her newest book is "Frisian Whitework: Dutch Embroidery from Friesland" from which this is one of the projects. Yvette spent time at the Fries Museum in the Netherlands studying many examples of the work as research for her book.
