
The Walcha region is renowned for its distinct and beautiful seasons. As the landscapes of our region becomes awash with sensational autumn colours, we would like to celebrate and showcase this. We are excited to announce the Autumn Colours of Walcha photographic competition for 2026.
Autumn Colours of Walcha photo competition will focus on beautiful photography and could include (but is not limited to) landscapes, streetscapes, garden images or autumn flora.
With great prizes up for grabs we hope this encourages all those serious and budding photographers to get out and about in the Walcha LGA!
Prizes will be given to the winners of first, second and third place. Highly commended will also be acknowledged.
To enter simply email your high-res images to tourism@walcha.nsw.gov.au OR upload high-res images to Walcha Region Autumn Photo Competition - Submit Entries
Entries close 23 May 2026. Photos must be submitted in high resolution JPEG or PNG format (minimum 2MB, maximum 10MB). Please include your full name and contact information, brief description of the photo and social media tags (optional).
Judging will be undertaken by Walcha Tourism and the winners will be announced on 4 June 2026.
Photographs must be taken in the Walcha LGA and should prominently show the colours and beauty of autumn in Walcha.

Frisian whitework comes from Friesland in the Netherlands. Frisian whitework samplers often featured alphabet letters in varying sizes and styles, large and small spot motifs, and designs for bands.
Learn the technique of Frisian whitework, making the Dutch Heart Sampler at a weekend workshop in Walcha, with internationally renowned whitework expert, Yvette Stanton.
In this class you will learn the basics of Frisian whitework, including stitches such as satin stitch (regular and diagonal), eyelets (single and clustered), whipped backstitch, topwinder stitch and chain stitch. The project is worked in pearl cotton thread on 28 count linen. All levels of proficiency are welcome, but experience with counted thread work is an advantage.

Quite the spectacle will arrive in Walcha as the annual 'Half-way Run', organised by VVCAA - Vintage Veterans Chevrolet Association of Australia and Vintage Chevrolet Association of Queensland, make a day trip to our beautiful town.
Every year these two clubs meet at a half way point between Sydney and Brisbane. This year they are basing themselves in Armidale and making a day trip to Walcha.
Their chosen route is Armidale | Uralla | Kentucky | Wollun | Walcha Road | Walcha. Be sure to keep an eye out and give them a friendly wave if you come across them.
If you'd like an opportunity to take a closer look they will be stopping in town for a few hours over lunch.
Due to arrive at McHattan Park around lunch time. where they will then have free time to enjoy lunch in town at various local cafes or pubs and meander around the town.
They will re-congregate at McHattan Park around 2-2:30 to head back to Armidale via
Bergen Road | Wollun | Kentucky.
