4WD and Motor Bike Adventures

Project Info

Project Description

Local maps show many loop roads that are great to view rolling hills, lush pastures in spring, the autumn colour in May or just head east to see our world famous Apsley and Tia waterfalls.

Collect a key from Apsley Motors or the National Parks Office and head out with a picnic basket for a great low range 4WD day trip not to be missed; a trip to Riverside. This destination is the only access into a wilderness core in NSW, with variants in elevation from over 1,000 metre to around 400 metres taking you from the rolling terrain of Moona Plains out to Bud’s Mare, where explorer and navigator, John Oxley had to stop and head back east when his team of horses encompassed a huge ravine.

Riverside has picnicking areas, a great place to swim or fish or why not pack a tent and stay a while.

Another day out is to take the road to the old gold mining hamlet of Niangala. Just past Niangala is Koolkuna Berry Farm, where you can stop for a spot of freshly brewed coffee, tasty treats, pick your own berries in season or purchase some berry wine or lacquers.

There are many roads to travel, and a stop at the Visitor Information Centre is a must. Here you will get the history and information needed on the area to ensure you have a great day out.
